Security

Security agencies

Security is hired through an agency. The agency assigns, employs, supervises, and pays its own officers, and recommends armed or unarmed coverage for your setting.

Plan security

Two options

Armed or unarmed?

Most events and buildings use unarmed officers. Describe your setting and let the agency explain its recommendation.

Unarmed security

Uniformed officers without firearms, provided by a security agency, for events, buildings, and everyday access control.

Often used for
  • Concerts, parties, weddings, and community events
  • Front desk and visitor check-in for a building
  • Patrols of construction sites or vacant property
  • A visible, reassuring presence at a store or office

Armed security

Security officers who carry a firearm, provided and supervised by a security agency, for settings where the agency agrees an armed presence fits.

Often used for
  • Sites or events where the agency assesses higher risk
  • Protecting a person who faces a specific, known threat
  • Properties with a history of serious incidents

Questions to ask

What to ask any agency.

Compare two or three agencies using the same questions.

  1. What is your agency license number?
  2. Do you recommend armed or unarmed officers here, and why?
  3. Who supervises officers on site, and how do I reach them?
  4. What do your written duties (post orders) and incident reports include?
  5. What is your minimum booking and cancellation policy?
